A group of Ennerdale residents who had been without electricity for hours took to James Street on 20 February, protesting against the ongoing outages. Burning tyres and road closures caused heavy traffic, making it difficult for motorists to reach their destinations.
A resident told GLOBE POST: “We were switched on around 9pm yesterday but woke up to no water this morning. At Small Nines, we frequently experience power outages.”
Ward 7’s Cllr Lois Simonse and the support team issued a statement apologising for the disruptions. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the protest. We understand residents’ frustration and regret any distress experienced by the community,” the statement read.
They assured residents that they are engaging with authorities to address the issues: “We recognise the concerns raised and are working towards meaningful solutions while prioritising peace and open communication.”
The statement indicated that those who were not assisted yesterday will receive help today.
The statement concluded: “City Power has committed to assisting all affected residents as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience as they work to resolve outstanding issues efficiently. We encourage open and constructive dialogue. Our priority remains the well-being of our residents and we encourage open discussions to ensure all voices are heard.”
