At just 15-years-old, Caydon Gouws from Ennerdale is making waves as a semi-finalist in the prestigious Face of Gauteng High Schools beauty contest.
A Grade 9 learner at Fred Norman Secondary School, Caydon is not just representing her school and community, but also turning her personal challenges into a source of inspiration for others.
Since 2021, Caydon has faced the painful reality of bullying, which deeply affected her emotional well-being and left her struggling to attend school. The toll on her mental health was felt by her entire family, who sought counselling as they navigated this difficult time.
The bullying situation escalated to the point of legal intervention, with court proceedings still ongoing. However, Caydon found the strength to turn her adversity into empowerment. Determined to make a difference, she began motivating other children who, like her, have experienced bullying.
Her initiative has opened the door for many to share their stories, and with the full support of her family, Caydon now leads a group aimed at offering emotional support to her peers. Her resilience has earned her the role of ambassador for Ennerdale and Fred Norman Secondary School as she continues to compete in the Face of Gauteng High Schools pageant. Beyond this, Caydon dedicates her time to community work with Ladies of Hope, serving both the elderly and children in need.
Caydon credits Lovechild Media Productions for helping her regain her confidence and smile, and she remains deeply grateful to her family, the Ennerdale community, and her school’s staff, particularly her principal, Ms. Octavia De Villiers, and her class teacher, Mrs. Khan, for their unwavering support.
In addition to her pageant journey, Caydon is also working on writing her first book, a testament to her ambition and determination. By transforming her experiences into powerful lessons for others, Caydon is showing young girls that no dream is out of reach-even in the face of adversity.
