Lawley poet uses words to give voice to life’s emotions

October 23, 2026

For Zanele Simelane, a passionate poet from Lawley Extension 2, poetry is more than just words on paper. It is a powerful form of expression that allows her to explore emotions, share personal experiences and connect with people through stories that reflect everyday life.

Inspired by love, pain, growth and the realities of the world around her, Simelane uses her writing to capture feelings and experiences that many people struggle to put into words.

Through her poetry, she hopes to create meaningful connections with readers and listeners, reminding them that their struggles, emotions and personal journeys are shared by others.

“I use poetry to express emotions, tell stories and speak about experiences that people can relate to,” Simelane said.

Her passion for storytelling reflects the creativity emerging from communities such as Lawley, where aspiring artists are finding their voices and looking for opportunities to share their talents with a wider audience.

For Simelane, poetry offers a space where difficult emotions can be expressed, life experiences can be explored and ordinary moments can become meaningful stories.

Her work draws inspiration from the different stages of life, from moments of happiness and love to experiences of heartbreak, pain and personal growth.

As she seeks to introduce her poetry to more people, Simelane hopes to use community platforms to showcase her creativity and connect with audiences who see their own experiences reflected in her words.

She also expressed appreciation for platforms that recognise and promote emerging local talent, highlighting the importance of giving aspiring creatives an opportunity to be seen and heard.

With a passion for meaningful storytelling and a desire to share her voice, Simelane represents the creative potential found within communities such as Lawley, where local talent continues to seek recognition and opportunities to grow.

Her journey is a reminder that powerful stories do not always need a stage or a spotlight. Sometimes, all they need is a pen, a voice and the courage to express what is in the heart.
