Lenasia South rallies behind 3G’s Can Drive to bring hope and food to families in need

A simple can of food may seem like a small contribution, but for a family struggling to put a meal on the table, it can make a meaningful difference. This is the message behind 3G’s Can Drive, a community initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families, orphanages and senior citizens in Lenasia South.

The local non-profit organisation has launched the food collection drive as part of its ongoing commitment to serving those facing socio-economic hardship. Residents and businesses are being encouraged to donate tinned and other non-perishable food items, including beans, vegetables, jam and peanut butter. Every contribution, regardless of size, will go towards helping those who need it most.

Founder Vasie Pillay said the initiative is rooted in the belief that communities can achieve more when people work together and care for one another “Our message is simple: ‘You can. We can. Together we all can.’ One can may seem small, but when a community comes together, those individual contributions can make a real difference. We appeal to residents and businesses to support the Can Drive and help us continue serving families, orphanages and senior citizens who are in need,” Pillay said.

Members of 3G’s will be stationed at the NTN Centre on Saturday, 22 August, and Saturday, 29 August 2026, from 11:00 to 13:30, where members of the public can drop their donations into the collection basket. Those unable to visit the NTN Centre can also contribute at Daxina Supermarket, which has come on board to support the campaign by providing a designated collection point for shoppers.

Beyond collecting food, the drive aims to encourage a greater spirit of compassion and community involvement. 3G’s hopes the initiative will remind residents that helping someone in need does not always require a large donation — small acts of generosity can collectively have a significant impact. The organisation is calling on the wider community to rally behind the campaign and help ensure that more families have food on their tables.

For 3G’s, the principle guiding the initiative remains clear: “Service to humanity is service to God.”
