Ennerdale’s young karatekas, Liam Barnes (14); Ashlynn (14) and Trinity (11) Scullard who are members of the Karate Dojo BSK Tigers seek the community’s support to to raise funds to attend the World Union of Karate (WUFK) Nationals set to take place in Gqeberha from 21 to 24 March.
The youngsters will be representing United Shotokan-Ryu Karate (USR) Gauteng at the tournament. They joined BSK Tigers in 2022 and have taken part in many tournaments where they won several medals. They were all recently graded to red belts.
During the 2023 Nationals, Liam took 1st place in Kumite, Ashlynn took 3rd and Trinity 4th place in Kata (different age groups). The trio seeks funds to cover accommodation, transportation, meals and entry fees.
“As the kids don’t receive any funding or sponsorship from local government we appeal for any donation or sponsorship from well-wishers to enable the youngsters to attend the tournament,” Megan Scullard told GLOBE POST.
