On 1 April, residents of Ennerdale voiced their frustration on community WhatsApp groups after days of inconsistent water supply now worsened by dirty, undrinkable water flowing from their taps.
Community members say the situation has become unbearable, with frequent disruptions affecting daily life. Dean Daniels, a resident from Ext 3 said: “Every week there is an issue with our water. It’s difficult, a big inconvenience, especially with kids on school holidays. We don’t have drinkable water and can’t even properly use the toilet.”
Daniels told GLOBE POST that while there has been ongoing communication from Johannesburg Water (JW), residents feel the responses have been repetitive and unhelpful. “Every time we get told the reservoir is running low.”
In response, JW confirmed that supply levels are critically low and that they have engaged Rand Water to assess and address the issue from their side. Despite these assurances, residents say they are still being forced to cope with brown, unclean water – raising serious concerns about health risks and basic sanitation. Another resident took it to Ward 7 Service Delivery WhatsApp group that water is basic right: “Water is a basic human right, not a privilege. No community should have to struggle for something so essential to life.”
Relief has finally arrived for residents as water supply has now been restored in most parts of the area.
