Globe Post mourns death of journalist Jonisayi “Warchild” Maromo

The media entities across Africa are mourning the passing of Zimbabwean journalist Jonisayi “Warchild” Maromo, who died on Wednesday morning , 11 March, at Mutare Hospital in Zimbabwe following a period of illness.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his wife, Aldrine Maromo.

Maromo was widely respected as a dedicated journalist, thoughtful communicator and passionate advocate for the development and transformation of the media sector across the African continent.

Throughout his career, he was known for his commitment to ethical journalism and his efforts to strengthen collaboration among media professionals. He was also a co-founder of the African Media and Communications Forum, an initiative aimed at bringing together journalists, communicators, policymakers and scholars to reflect on the role of media in shaping Africa’s democratic and developmental agenda.

In a statement, African Media and Communications Forum said: “As a co-founder of the African Media and Communications Forum, Jonisayi played an instrumental role in creating a platform that brought together journalists, communicators, policymakers and scholars to reflect on the role of the media in shaping Africaís democratic and developmental agenda.”

The statement added: “Those who knew Jonisayi will remember him for his intellectual curiosity, humility, and unwavering commitment to telling African stories with honesty and depth. He believed strongly in the power of media to inform, empower and connect communities. His voice, insights and mentorship will be sorely missed by many in the profession.”
