Kids Cave Academy and Young Fathers Care host successful Literacy Awareness Programme

September 27, 2023

In a bid to promote literacy among children and inspire young minds, Kids Cave Academy, in partnership with Young Fathers Care, hosted the first annual Literacy Awareness Programme on Monday, 25 September at Qalabotjha Secondary School in Vlakfontein Ext 3.

Kids Cave Academy, an after-school and after-care programme dedicated to assisting underprivileged children with their homework and reading, played a pivotal role in organising this significant initiative. Founded by Nwabisa Princess Tshaka, an early childhood development (ECD) teacher with a decade of experience in the field, the programme has been making a difference in the lives of countless young learners in the Vlakfontein community.

The primary objective of the Literacy Awareness Programme was to encourage a love for literature among children and ignite their young minds. It brought together various stakeholders, including community leaders, social workers, and educational partners, to emphasize the importance of reading and education in a child’s life.

Notable figures present at the event included the Coj Speaker, Cllr Colleen Makhubele, who delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the significance of literacy. Additionally, the event was graced by the presence of Mr Dingani Sthole, Chief of Staff, and representatives from Nal’ibali Literacy Initiative, a vital partner in this initiative.

The Literacy Awareness Programme also extended its appreciation to several community centers and educational institutions that joined hands to make the event a resounding success. These included Few Steps, Dees Supreme Academy, Phumlamqashi Children’s Feeding Scheme, and Igugulethu Primary School, all of which played crucial roles in promoting literacy within the community.

In her closing remarks, Nwabisa Princess Tshaka, the driving force behind Kids Cave Academy, expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended the event. She also shared her excitement about the positive impact this programme would continue to have on the community’s young learners, reaffirming her commitment to the cause.

The Literacy Awareness Programme concluded with the motto, “Imfundo iqala ngoku Funda,” which translates to “Education begins with Reading.”
