Lotus School of Excellence, an independent educational institution, extends a warm invitation to all interested parents, guardians, and students to its Open Day, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 16. Situated in Lenasia Ext 10, this school has been providing quality education since its establishment in 2017, starting from grade 1 and progressively expanding to accommodate students up to grade 12. Notably, in 2022, the school introduced a grade R class, emphasizing its commitment to comprehensive education.

High Standards and Accreditation

Lotus School of Excellence is a registered entity with the Gauteng Department of Education, holding the registration number 700400922. It prides itself on meeting rigorous standards, as it has been vetted and accredited by Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training in South Africa. The school is also a proud member of the Independent Schools Association of South Africa (ISASA), further attesting to its commitment to educational excellence.

Curriculum and Performance

The school follows the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) curriculum, as monitored by the Gauteng Department of Education. What sets Lotus School of Excellence apart is its high internal pass mark of 60% for tests and assessment tasks during the first three terms. Afterward, National Assessment criteria are applied to encourage learners to aim for higher goals and better performance in all subjects.

Individual Attention and Support

With class sizes ranging from 3 to a maximum of 25 learners, Lotus School ensures that each student receives the necessary individual attention. The school offers support classes designed to help students address specific subject weaknesses.

Experienced Leadership and Teaching Staff

Led by Mr. RB Naidoo (Bangs), who boasts over 40 years of teaching experience, including more than 20 years as a Principal, the school is in capable hands. All teachers are accredited by the South African Council of Educators (SACE) and are experienced and qualified in their respective subjects. The teaching staff comprises a blend of retired high-ranking Education Department Officials, former principals, and other School Management Team members, along with young, dedicated, and vibrant educators.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Technology Integration

Lotus School is equipped with modern amenities, including a functional Science Lab, a well-equipped Computer Room, a Drawing Room, and a Hall. The school boasts a fully functional library stocked with an extensive collection of books to promote a culture of reading. Certain classrooms are equipped with smartboards, and technology is utilized effectively to enhance the learning experience. The school also has limited solar power to mitigate the impact of load shedding.

Extracurricular Activities and Enrichment

In addition to academic excellence, Lotus School offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. External service providers offer activities such as Archery and Pottery. Chess is introduced from the Junior Primary Level, while Coding and Robotics are taught from grade 1 up to grade 5. Computer Literacy is offered at grade 8 and 9 levels, with plans to introduce Ballroom Dancing and Speech and Drama in the near future. Regular field trips and excursions enrich classroom learning.

Competitions and Specialist Subjects

Lotus School actively participates in various competitions, including the Maths Challenge, Speech and Debating competitions, and various Olympiads. The school also offers specialist subjects such as Engineering Graphics Design, Tourism, and Computer Applications Technology. Isizulu is introduced at the Junior Primary level and progressively expanded to higher grades.

Safety and Security

Ensuring the safety of students and staff is paramount. The school features CCTV cameras, on and off-site security personnel, and maintains a working relationship with local paramedics. Secure fencing provides access control and a high level of safety.

Uniform and Supplies

The school uniform is conveniently available for purchase on-site. However, parents are responsible for acquiring textbooks and stationery.
