Young warriors from Zakariyya Park and Lenasia South Karate Academies returned victorious from the 7th IKO Matsushima Gauteng Provincial Tournament, held on 26 July, at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto.
The event, which showcased junior and senior talent from across the province, was a thrilling display of martial arts excellence. Representing the South African Karate Kyokushinkai Academy, the two dojos proudly brought home three trophies, highlighting their dedication, discipline and growing dominance in the sport.
Khwezi Shezi (10) from Lenasia South – 3rd Place, Boys Under 45kg, Asakhanya Msedese (8) from Hospital Hills – 3rd Place, Girls Under 30kg and Jacky Ngoepe (16) from Vlakfontein took Special Recognition for Outstanding Fight Performance.
These accomplishments reflect the hard work and guidance of Sensei Mabati Makwela and Shodan Given Ngoepe, who continue to shape young athletes into confident and disciplined martial artists.
“Karate instills values that go beyond the mat -discipline, confidence and mental strength. We encourage more youth to join and grow through the sport,” said Sensei Makwela.
