Bechuana Methodist Church Women’s Prayer Service, and community service were at the centre of a three-day gathering that brought women together at Daxina Primary School from 25 to 27 September for the Annual Convention Women’s Prayer Service. Hosted by the Bechuana Methodist Church, Lenasia South Branch, the convention was held under the theme “Arise and Shine”, drawn from Matthew 5:16. The gathering formed part of the church’s wider programme of spiritual development and fellowship and brought together members from Lenasia South and other parts of the country. The Lenasia South branch, under the leadership of Rev N.O. Menyatso, Rev K.M. Menyatso, falls within the Gauteng Region under Presiding Elder, A.K. Khunou. The convention was convened under the leadership of Bishop, T.S.H. Thabagae, and Lady Bishop M.A. Thabagae, with the programme led by the Lady Bishop’s Committee.
Throughout the three-day programme, women participated in prayer sessions and preaching aimed at encouraging spiritual growth and reflection. The theme, “Arise and Shine”, provided the focus for the convention, with the programme creating space for attendees to come together in worship and strengthen their faith. The convention also incorporated recreational activities, allowing participants to engage outside the formal prayer and preaching sessions. Sports activities formed part of the programme, with a focus on fitness and fellowship. A beauty pageant was also held as part of the celebrations, providing an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the women participating in the convention.
For the organisers, the programme was not limited to activities within the church. As part of the WPS community outreach initiative, food parcels and toiletries were donated to members of the Lenasia South community. The outreach formed part of the church’s efforts to give back to the community in which its members live and worship.
The church expressed its appreciation to Daxina Primary School management for making the venue available for the convention. The Lenasia South Clinic was also thanked for its support during the event. The church further acknowledged members of the local community, as well as attendees who travelled from different provinces to participate in the three-day gathering. The organisers said the convention provided an opportunity to support women on multiple levels, including spiritually, physically and emotionally, while also extending the church’s outreach into the surrounding community.
The convention also highlighted the longstanding history of the Bechuana Methodist Church. The church was founded on 4 April 1905 and has continued its work in communities across the country for more than 120 years. Its activities include religious gatherings, fellowship and community-focused initiatives such as the outreach undertaken during the WPS convention. Young People’s Service convention next. The church is now preparing for its next major gathering, the Young People’s Service (YPS) Convention, which will take place from 2 to 4 October 2026. The convention will be held at Allanridge, Nyakallong, in the Free State, and will be hosted by Rev Moloi.
The YPS convention will be held under the leadership of President T. Tlhale and Lady President K.R. Tlhale, with arrivals scheduled for 12h00. The church has invited community members to attend the gathering and participate in the programme. The upcoming convention follows the WPS gathering in Lenasia South, which combined worship and fellowship with activities aimed at celebrating women and supporting the wider community.
