Motorists travelling near FNB Stadium on Saturday, 15 August 2026, should prepare for road closures and traffic diversions ahead of the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Stadium gates will open at 10:00, while kick-off is scheduled for 15:00. Road closures and access controls will also take effect from 10:00.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said a strict traffic exclusion zone will be enforced around the stadium. Private vehicles will only be allowed into the precinct with valid parking tickets purchased in advance.
Public transport vehicles, including taxis and buses, will be exempt from the restriction. Residents will need valid season passes to enter restricted residential areas.
Access control checkpoints will be placed at several intersections, including:
- N1 South off-ramp and N17
- Nasrec Road and Colorado Drive
- Nasrec Road and Adcock Ingram Avenue
- Crownwood Road and Booysens Reserve Road
- Amethyst Road and Modulus Road
- Rand Show Road and N1
- Soweto Highway and N1
Before the match, sections of Nasrec Road will be used to direct traffic towards the stadium and parking areas. Soweto Highway will be closed between Mentz Street and the N1 North on-ramp and reserved for Rea Vaya, park-and-ride buses and taxis displaying official stickers.
Crownwood Road and Booysens Reserve Road will be fully closed, with limited access for hospitality guests, VIPs and people with disabilities.
Traffic travelling from Soweto will be diverted via the N1 South off-ramp, Rand Show Road and Golden Highway to reach parking at the Expo Centre.
After the match, Nasrec Road will operate as a four-lane one-way route leading away from the stadium. Adcock Ingram Avenue will be closed to incoming traffic at Nasrec Road, while the N1 South and N17 off-ramp will also be closed temporarily to prevent vehicles from entering the precinct.
Spectators are encouraged to use Rea Vaya, minibus taxis or dedicated Gautrain buses operating from Park Station.
Motorists wishing to avoid the stadium precinct may use the N1, M1 and N12 highways, as well as Main Reef Road, Crownwood Road, Aerodrome Road, Adcock Ingram Avenue and Rifle Range Road.
JMPD officers will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians. Residents and road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance and expect delays.
