The Gauteng Department of Social Development marked Women’s Month at the Sizwe Development Centre in Lenasia, bringing women together with key stakeholders to access information, services and opportunities aimed at promoting empowerment and self-reliance.
The programme brought together the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), the Gauteng Department of Health and funded non-profit organisations, including Mount Olive and the Sizwe Development Centre.
Women were provided with information and support in areas such as food security, health, social protection and skills development, while also learning about opportunities and resources available to help improve their livelihoods.
Gauteng MEC for Social Development Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko emphasised the importance of creating opportunities that enable women to become economically empowered.
“When women have access to skills, resources, markets, and opportunities, families become more resilient, communities become stronger, and local economies grow,” Nkomo-Ralehoko said.
The initiative formed part of ongoing Women’s Month activities aimed at ensuring women are not only celebrated, but also equipped with practical knowledge and support to strengthen themselves, their families and their communities.
