Motorists are advised to expect traffic disruptions around the Orlando Amstel Arena in Orlando, Soweto, on Saturday, 8 August, as Orlando Pirates FC take on Durban City FC in the MTN 8 Cup.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) will deploy officers to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain safety in and around the stadium.
The following routes are expected to be affected:
- N17
- Soweto Highway
- Klipspruit Valley Road
- Martha Louw Street
- Mooki Street
Road closures will begin at 10:00.
Specific road closures include:
- Mooki Street between Nkom Ya Hlaba and Masopha streets.
- Martha Louw Street between Klipspruit Valley Road and Mooki Street.
- Adams and Rathebe streets near the YMCA.
- Adams and Nama streets.
- Nkwanca and Armitage streets.
Motorists are encouraged to make use of alternative routes. From Mooki Street, drivers can use Ballenden and Masopha streets, or travel via the Soweto Highway, Eben Cuyler Drive and Moshoeshoe Street.
Following the match, several traffic management measures will be implemented to assist with the safe dispersal of supporters. A section of Mooki Street will be converted into a one-way street running from Martha Louw Street towards the Soweto Highway.
The Soweto Highway will be closed at Eben Cuyler Drive. Vehicles travelling from Diepkloof will be diverted via Eben Cuyler Drive and Moshoeshoe Street into Orlando East. There will also be no left turn from Mooki Street onto the Soweto Highway.
Spectator parking will be available at the following locations:
- Open space at the corner of Martha Louw Street and Klipspruit Valley Road.
- Shomane High School.
- AB Quma Primary School (Scott Street).
- Lofentse Girls High School (Mooki Street).
- Zithathele Primary School (Mooki Street).
- Leratong Primary School.
- Orlando High School.
- Selelekela High School (Mooki Street).
- Lereche Primary School (Adams Street).
- Orlando Court (Mooki Street).
Parking for VIPs, media and VOC members will be available inside the Orlando Amstel Arena.
Residents and members of the public are urged to remain patient as increased traffic volumes are expected throughout the day.
Stadium gates will open at 11:00, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00. Motorists and supporters are encouraged to arrive early and familiarise themselves with the traffic management plan to avoid delays.
