A multidisciplinary Operation Shanela II led by Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, resulted in several arrests and law enforcement actions across the Lenasia and Ennerdale policing precincts.
The high-density operation brought together various law enforcement agencies to strengthen crime prevention, improve police visibility and enforce compliance with the law.
During the operation, police arrested 71 undocumented foreign nationals for contravening the Immigration Act. Authorities also shut down 11 liquor outlets found to be operating in violation of the Gauteng Liquor Act.
Three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs as officers continued efforts to clamp down on drug-related crimes in the area.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) issued fines to motorists for a range of traffic offences detected during the operation.
In a separate overnight operation, Gauteng detectives arrested 909 wanted suspects across the province. Among them were 195 suspects wanted for crimes committed against women and children.
Major General Kekana said the operation reflects SAPS’ commitment to tackling crime through coordinated law enforcement efforts.
“Operation Shanela II remains focused on strengthening police visibility, enforcing the law and ensuring compliance through coordinated operations. These multidisciplinary efforts are aimed at combating crime and improving the safety and security of communities across Gauteng,” said Kekana.
