Fifteen Grade R learners from Wasalaam Nursery and Pre School showcased their confidence, creativity and public speaking skills during the school’s Annual Speech Contest held on Saturday, 25 July.

The event, held in Lenasia South, brought together parents, educators and members of the community to celebrate the learners’ public speaking abilities while encouraging confidence and effective communication from an early age.

The competition was adjudicated by Sameera Bamath and Zineera Buccas, who commended every participant for their preparation and confidence. Bamath said the standard of the competition was exceptionally high, with the top positions separated by just one mark.

The winners were:

● First place: Lamees Wilderman

● Second place: Hanifa Laina Musa

● Third place: Sufiyaan Mia

● Most Promising Speaker Award: Muawwaz Doba

School principal Apa Aysha Wadiwala congratulated all the learners for their outstanding efforts.

“We are incredibly proud of every child who had the courage to stand up and speak. Building confidence, communication skills and good character is at the heart of what we do, and this competition reflects the values we strive to instil in our learners,” said Wadiwala.

In addition to its academic programme, Wasalaam Nursery and Pre School offers Speech and Drama as one of its many extra-mural activities at no additional cost, providing learners with opportunities to develop self-confidence and presentation skills.

The school has announced that registrations for the 2027 academic year are now open. Parents interested in enrolling their children can contact the school on 011 855 6895 for more information.
