The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged social grant beneficiaries whose grants have been selected for review not to panic if they do not receive their payment during the normal August payment cycle.
Beneficiaries whose grants are under review will instead receive their payments on Friday, 7 August, one day after the regular grant payment schedule has been completed.
The August payment dates are:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August
- Children’s Grants: Thursday, 6 August
- Grants under review: Friday, 7 August
SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said: “Beneficiaries whose grants have been identified for review should note that they will not receive their grants during the normal three-day payment cycle. Instead, they will be paid on the fourth payment day.”
After receiving their grants, beneficiaries are expected to visit their nearest SASSA office during August to complete the review process. Letsatsi warned that failing to respond to a review request could result in a grant being suspended or lapsing in line with the Social Assistance Act.
SASSA notifies affected beneficiaries through SMS messages and has urged recipients to ensure their cellphone numbers, addresses and other contact details remain up to date.
Beneficiaries attending a review should take along a valid South African ID, proof of income, three months’ bank statements, proof of residence and any grant-specific supporting documents required to confirm continued eligibility.
