Motorists across South Africa are bracing for fuel price increases as Month-end data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) shows that fuel price recoveries have dropped even further over the last week, meaning that motorists can expect an even larger hike once the official fuel price adjustments take effect on Wednesday, 4 March.

Petrol is now expected to increase by up to 21 cents per litre, while diesel users face a significantly sharper blow, with projected hikes of up to 65 cents per litre. The late timing of the updated data means there is little room for change before the new prices are implemented, making the anticipated increases almost certain.

According to the CEF’s latest projections, the expected adjustments are as follows:

  • Petrol 93: Increase of 18 cents per litre
  • Petrol 95: Increase of 21 cents per litre
  • Diesel 0.05% (wholesale): Increase of 62 cents per litre
  • Diesel 0.005% (wholesale): Increase of 65 cents per litre
