On 10 February, at around 6:50 pm, a house on Himalayas Street – right opposite Willowmead Field – was engulfed in towering flames after a domestic dispute turned violent.

Eyewitness Adheep Mahabeer told GLOBE POST: “The fire was started by the homeowner’s girlfriend following an argument. It was terrifying!” Mahabeer added that no one was injured, but the chaos left neighbors trembling in fear.

Mahabeer said: “By the time I left, firefighters still hadn’t arrived. It was a miracle the fire didn’t spread further.”

Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi admitted: “We didn’t receive a call about this incident. It’s possible residents had already contained it by the time we were alerted.”

Local residents sprang into action, rushing to douse the flames themselves. They took it to Globe Post News WhatsApp group that the house was fully ablaze, and without their swift intervention, the disaster could have been far worse.
