Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) would like to inform residents that the Lenasia Crematorium will be temporarily closed from 24 November to 6 December 2025.

The closure is necessary to allow for the repair and replacement of the crematorium’s gas installation, ensuring that the cremations remain safe and fully operational. During this period, all cremation requests will be directed to the Braamfontein Crematorium. Families also have the alternate option to make use of the Brixton Crematorium.

JCPZ encourages funeral homes and residents to plan accordingly and to contact the respective facilities for guidance and assistance.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thank the public for their understanding and support,” said JCPZ Manager for Cemeteries, Azola Manjati.“

These essential repairs are critical to maintaining safe and reliable cremation services for our communities,” he added.

For enquiries and further information, residents can contact Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo’s Cemeteries Booking Department on 011 712 6600 or Braamfontein Crematorium: 011 338 5189, Brixton Crematorium on 083 400 2560.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during this period.
