A Gauteng police officer accused of murdering his friend has been denied bail by the Lenasia Magistrates Court. Constable Tshepiso Lloyd Malapane (33), stationed at Dobsonville SAPS, was reportedly drinking with his friend at a tavern in Pimville on 21 September, at around 22:00 when an altercation broke out with another patron.

Malapane reportedly left the scene but returned with his service firearm. His friend, Lebogang Sekhute (27), tried to intervene and stop the fight, but Constable Malapane allegedly shot him multiple times. Sekhute was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Malapane was arrested immediately and detained at Kliptown SAPS. He was denied bail and the case has been postponed to 5 November 2025 for further investigations.
