The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) attended to a fatal collision, where two Toyota Quantum mini-bus taxis collided with each other, at the intersection of Ring Road East and Voortrekker Road, next to New Market Mall, in Alberton CBD.

It was alleged by the driver of vehicle “B” that he was driving on Ring Road direction East, and the traffic light was already open for him to pass, when the driver of vehicle “A”, who was driving from Voortrekker Road, failed to stop at the traffic light and collided with him.

No statement was received from the driver of vehicle A, because he was seriously injured and was rushed to Baragwanath Hospital for treatment.

The jaws-of-life had to be used to take out the driver of vehicle A, together with a female passenger who was sitting with him. Six male and female passengers sustained serious injuries, and five male and female passengers who sustained slight injuries were taken Thelemogoerane Hospital, Baragwanath Hospital and some were taken to Germiston Hospital for treatment.

An unknown female passenger who was declared dead on the scene, was taken to Germiston Mortuary.

No arrests have been made and further investigations are underway.
