Armed robbers bomb ATM and safe at Zakariyya Park’s Engen Garage

Early this morning, as a group of approximately 12 armed men carried out an ATM bombing and business robbery at an Engen garage located on Corner Turmeric and Clove in Zakariyya Park.

The armed individuals stormed the scene at around 1.45am.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Anthony Kholo, the security guard present recounted being confronted by the group, all described as black males armed with rifles and pistols. They swiftly ordered him to the ground upon their arrival.

Kholo told GLOBE POST: “They bombed a Standard Bank ATM and proceeded into the shop where they bombed the safe and took undisclosed amount of money (cash flow) and cigarettes. When leaving the scene, they fired shots in the air and left on foot through the open veld. No money was taken from the ATM.”

All SAPS role players attended to the scene. Investigations are underway and no arrests have been made.
