A deadly shooting erupted on the K43 between Meriteng and Lenasia South on Wednesday, 2 April around 8.50am, leaving a devastating scene in its wake where at least four people were confirmed dead while one person sustained injuries.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area as investigations continue. Globe Post was at the scene.
According to witnesses, the attack unfolded in a hail of bullets, with high-calibre weapons being used. A motorist who arrived moments after the shooting described the chaos: “The wheels of a car in the ditch were still spinning. I looked towards another vehicle about 400 meters away and saw two men crawling out.”
The witness immediately used the Namola App to call for an ambulance and SAPS. However, just after making the call, a white Polo reportedly returned to the scene, and its occupants opened fire on the men inside a silver-grey Toyota Yaris. One of the Yaris occupants managed to escape, fleeing on foot as gunfire continued.
This latest attack is believed to be linked to ongoing taxi-related violence in the area. It follows several similar incidents in recent days, including a fatal shooting outside the Ennerdale Taxi Association offices and the killing of four individuals in Vlakfontein over the weekend.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. SAPS investigations are ongoing, and further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
