The holiday season, while joyful, can also bring stress, loneliness and anxiety. To maintain balance, set realistic expectations and focus on meaningful moments rather than perfection.

Practise self-care by prioritising activities that nourish your well – being and allow time to recharge. Boundaries are essential – don’t hesitate to say no to overwhelming commitments. Rest is equally important, as sleep helps manage stress and maintain energy.

If loneliness arises, connect with friends, community groups, or volunteer to foster a sense of belonging. Lastly, embrace gratitude and mindfulness to stay grounded. Acknowledge mixed emotions without judgement and focus on the positives to navigate the season with greater ease.

If you or someone you know needs support, here are helpful contacts:

Suicide Crisis Line – 0800 567 567

Cipla Mental Health – 0800 456 789 / SMS 31393 / WhatsApp 076 882 2775

SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) – 011 234 4837.
