From Eldorado Park to Bali: Young footballer’s dreams of taking kasi talent to the international stage

From the streets of Eldorado Park to the international football stage, young Quraish is chasing his dream of playing in Bali, Indonesia. Now, he needs his community’s support to make that dream a reality.

November 4, 2026

At just five years old, Quraish discovered something special the moment he stepped onto a soccer field for the first time. What started as a childhood love for the beautiful game has since grown into a decade-long journey of dedication, discipline and determination, bringing him one step closer to his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Now, the young footballer from Eldorado Park, Gauteng, is preparing for what could be one of the biggest milestones of his sporting journey: an opportunity to represent his community at an international youth soccer tournament in Bali, Indonesia, in March 2027.

Quraish’s football journey took a significant step forward when he joined MM Stars in 2016. Over the past 10 years, the team has become more than just a place to develop his footballing abilities; it has become a second family, supporting him through the highs and lows of the game.

From challenging training sessions and disappointing defeats to memorable victories, football has remained a constant in his life, providing him with direction, discipline and a positive outlet.

Reflecting on the beginning of his journey, Quraish recalls the feeling of stepping onto the field for the first time.

“I still remember the first time I put on a kit and stepped onto the soccer field. In that moment, I felt something I can’t explain, like I belonged. Like I was home. From that day, I never looked back,” he said.

For Quraish, however, football has always represented something much bigger than scoring goals or winning matches. It has been a way of staying focused, avoiding the negative influences that can affect young people and holding onto a dream that has continued to motivate him.

“Soccer kept me off the streets and kept me focused on my dream: to become a professional soccer player and make it out of the wood of Eldorado Park,” he said.

His upcoming trip to Bali presents an opportunity to take that dream beyond the borders of South Africa. The international tournament will allow him to compete against youth teams from different parts of the world while potentially attracting the attention of professional football academies.

But beyond personal achievement, Quraish hopes his journey will inspire other young people growing up in Eldorado Park and surrounding communities to believe in their abilities, regardless of where they come from.

“I want to show every young kid from Eldo that our dreams are valid, that we can make it from here,” he said.

While the opportunity marks an exciting chapter in his development, getting to Bali comes with significant financial requirements. His family is appealing to the community, local businesses, football supporters and well-wishers to help raise the necessary funds to make the trip possible.

The funds will go towards return flights to Bali, accommodation, tournament registration fees, transport, visas and meals.

For a young player who has spent years working towards this moment, community support could make the difference between a dream remaining on the field and an opportunity becoming a reality on the international stage.

Quraish is therefore calling on anyone who believes in young talent and the power of sport to contribute towards his journey. Every donation, regardless of size, will bring him a step closer to representing his hometown.

“Please support me. No amount is too small. If you cannot donate, please share my story,” he appealed.

His message to the community is simple: talent, ambition and determination are not limited by geography. With the right opportunities and support, young people from townships can compete and excel on international platforms.

“Help me take Eldorado Park to the world. Help me show that talent from the kasi can shine on an international stage.”

As March 2027 approaches, Quraish is hoping that the same community that has watched him grow as a footballer will rally behind him as he takes this important next step.
