Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of a Grade 12 learner from Daleview Secondary School, who was fatally stabbed on Monday, 23 March.
According to preliminary reports, the 19-year-old learner was attacked in an open veld between the school and a nearby local store while walking home after school. Ennerdale SAPS confirmed the incident. “I was on the scene yesterday, and can confirm the incident. We received the call at 3:55pm and responded immediately despite the rain. Our members are currently on scene collecting evidence as it was found, including the murder weapon, a knife, and the deceased’s cellphone.”
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Cpt Tintswalo Sibeko told GLOBE POST that no arrests have been made at this stage and the motive for the attack is currenlty unkown. “Police investigations are underway,” she added.
The Gauteng Department of Education indicated that psycho-social support services have been mobilised to assist affected learners, educators, and the bereaved family during this difficult time.
MEC Chiloane extended his condolences, describing the incident as a devastating loss to the education community. “This is a deeply painful loss for our education community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and both school communities affected by these tragedies. Violence against our learners, whether within or outside school premises, is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated,” he said.
