The Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara and the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Human Settlements, Mlungisi Mabaso, recently conducted an oversight visit to Vlakfontein Ext 1, 2 & 3 to assess progress on a housing project aimed at completing 128 units for qualifying beneficiaries.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts to unblock previously stalled housing projects and accelerate delivery of homes to residents with 68 houses already complete while a total budget of R9,433,600 has been allocated towards the development of the remaining expected to be finalised by the end of the 2026/27 financial year.
MEC Motara said: “The project stalled after the City of Johannesburg did not extend the contracts of its appointed service providers. The department has since intervened by appointing new service providers to complete the outstanding units. At this stage, there are no plans to expand housing development beyond the current 128 units in Vlakfontein,” concluded the department.”
