Motorists travelling via the Grasmere Toll Plaza will now pay R27.50 at the mainline and R14 at the ramps following the latest toll tariff adjustments introduced by South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) on 1 March.

Class 1 vehicles, includes light vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, minibuses and bakkies with or without trailers. Class 2 vehicles, which are medium-heavy vehicles with two axles, pay R82, while Class 3 vehicles, heavy vehicles with three or four axles, pay R96. Class 4 vehicles, which include large trucks with five or more axles, now pay R126 at the Grasmere toll plaza

A one-way trip from Johannesburg to Durban the N3 for a light motor vehicle (Class 1) now costs about R347.50 in total toll fees, meaning motorists should budget roughly R695 for a return trip between the two cities.

Travellers heading to Durban will pass through five major toll plazas along the route. The first is De Hoek Toll Plaza near Heidelberg, which costs about R67. This is followed by Wilge Toll Plaza near Villiers at R94, and Tugela Toll Plaza near Ladysmith, which is one of the most expensive on the route at R100. Motorists will then pass Mooi River Toll Plaza at around R70

With the new toll tariffs now in effect, motorists planning holidays, family visits or business trips to the coast are encouraged to factor these costs into their travel budgets to avoid unexpected expenses during the journey.
