Grant payments to continue despite SASSA MSA “expiry” reports

Postbank has assured all SASSA beneficiaries receiving grants through Postbank’s Black Cards and SASSA Gold Cards that their grant payments will continue without any interruption.

Postbank is proud of the work it is doing where millions of South Africans who depend on social grants continue to successfully receive their grants using their Postbank Black Cards and SASSA Gold Cards. It is therefore important that beneficiaries are reassured that this will not change, their payments in those cards are guaranteed. The reports circulating in the media that the Master Services Agreement (MSA) is expiring are unfortunate and not necessarily valid, and beneficiaries are urged to disregard the reports and remain unconcerned.

Postbank is in discussions with SASSA regarding the MSA, which, although it has no end date, requires periodic reviews, similar to any other contract. It is important to emphasize that the presence or absence of the MSA does not affect social grant payments for any beneficiary. Grant payments into Postbank Black Cards and SASSA Gold Cards will continue as normal, as the cards represent direct accounts that beneficiaries have with Postbank. There is no need for beneficiaries to change their payment methods or open new bank accounts, despite external calls to do so. Payments will always be received securely and timeously through their existing cards.

Postbank further reassures the public that beneficiaries have not experienced unauthorized deductions on their accounts, as the institution robustly monitors and protects all accounts and personal information. Grant beneficiaries are reminded that if their card (Gold or Black) is lost or stolen, it can be replaced at no cost at participating retailers such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Spar, and Shoprite, provided they bring a valid ID.

Postbank calls on all stakeholders to engage responsibly and prioritize the interests and peace of mind of social grant beneficiaries above all else. The bank remains fully dedicated to its grant payments mandate and is committed to working with stakeholders to ensure these critical services continue uninterrupted.
