Four decades of devotion, cultural preservation and community service will take centre stage as the Iyanaar and Siva Gnana Sabay Temple in Lenasia prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special Thanksgiving Festival on 29 November.
What began as a humble place of worship has grown into a spiritual and cultural centre, bringing generations of devotees together through prayer, education and community involvement. The milestone marks not only the temple’s growth over the past 40 years but also the dedication of its founders, priests, volunteers and community members who have contributed to its development.
Among its significant achievements is the construction of dedicated priest quarters, ensuring that daily prayers and religious rituals can continue without interruption. The temple also established a Cultural Centre where children and young people are introduced to Tamil, religious hymns, music, dance and Hindu values, helping preserve cultural traditions for future generations.
Another notable development was the creation of a children’s playground within the temple grounds, providing a safe environment where families can gather, worship and spend time together.Over the years, the temple has undergone substantial improvements, transforming from its original shrine into a place of worship featuring a prominent Gopuram. The development of a bell tower has also strengthened its religious traditions, with the ringing of the bell signalling the commencement of Sunday services.

Reflecting on the milestone, spiritual leader Thiru Villa Pillay paid tribute to those who have supported the temple throughout its journey. “40 years is not just a celebration of a building, it is a celebration of the people – our founders, our priests, our donors, volunteers and devotees who kept the lamp burning,” said Pillay.
The anniversary celebrations will honour the temple’s history while recognising its continued role in promoting spirituality, cultural identity and community unity. Devotees, former members and the broader community are invited to attend the 40th Anniversary Thanksgiving Festival on Sunday, 29 November 2026, at 14:00, at the Siva Gnana Sabay Cultural Hall.
The programme will include special prayers, cultural activities and light refreshments, offering attendees an opportunity to reflect on the temple’s journey and celebrate its achievements. As the temple enters its fifth decade, its leadership hopes to continue building on a legacy rooted in faith, service and the preservation of Hindu traditions.
