Out of the 56 candidate entries on the Ward 7 ballot paper, 35 candidates (62.5%) are running in more than one ward across the City of Johannesburg.
While major parties (such as ActionSA, ANC, and PA) field local candidates who stand exclusively in Ward 7, smaller and emerging parties frequently place candidate names on multiple ward ballots. Because every ward vote cast for a party contributes directly to that party’s proportional representation (PR) seat calculations across the municipality, political parties utilize this strategy to ensure full ballot coverage across Johannesburg.
