Police have intensified efforts to curb illegal activities in the Eldorado Park policing precinct, with an arrest following the discovery of an alleged unlicensed liquor outlet in Slovo Park.
The arrest took place on Monday, October 5, when members of the Eldorado Park SAPS Vispol Unit were conducting patrols along Moletsane Street at about 08:30 am.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, officers noticed three men sitting outside a spaza shop drinking beer. When questioned about where they had bought the alcohol, the men pointed officers towards the nearby spaza shop.
Police approached the owner and requested permission to search the premises. During the search, the woman was allegedly unable to provide a valid liquor licence or permit authorising her to sell alcohol.
She was informed of her constitutional rights before being arrested for allegedly dealing in liquor without a licence. Police confiscated liquor estimated to be worth R700. The alcohol was photographed, registered and retained as an exhibit.
Khobo confirmed that the suspect, a foreign national residing on Moletsane Street in Slovo Park, was detained at Eldorado Park SAPS.
“She was arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence and will appear in court soon,” said Khobo.
The arrest comes amid ongoing community and stakeholder engagements in Eldorado Park aimed at strengthening cooperation between residents, community structures and law enforcement in tackling crime and other illegal activities.
