An intelligence-led police operation across three areas of Sebokeng has resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of two 9mm pistols, magazines and live ammunition. The operation was carried out on Monday, 28 September, by members of the Sedibeng Tactical Response Team (TRT), working alongside Sedibeng Crime Intelligence. Police targeted separate locations in Zone 11, Zone 12 and Zone 14 after receiving information about individuals allegedly linked to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects, aged 19, 22 and 51, were arrested separately during the operation.
According to police, members searched the identified premises after explaining the purpose of the operation, with permission granted for the searches to be conducted. The searches resulted in the recovery of two 9mm pistols, two magazines, live ammunition. The 19-year-old suspect was arrested in Zone 11 for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. A 22-year-old suspect was arrested in Zone 12 for allegedly possessing unlicensed ammunition, while the 51-year-old suspect was arrested in Zone 14 for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The operation followed information received by Crime Intelligence during September regarding individuals allegedly in possession of illegal firearms in the Sebokeng area. Police said further intelligence gathering helped identify the suspects and led to the arrests.
The recovered firearms and ammunition will undergo forensic investigation to establish whether they may be linked to other crimes. Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho welcomed the operation and praised the TRT and Crime Intelligence members for working together.“The recovery of unlicensed firearms and ammunition remains a priority in our ongoing efforts to prevent violent crime and protect communities,” said Mukwevho.
