A joint military and police operation targeting criminal activity in Eldorado Park led to the arrest of two men after drugs and R8,000 in cash were found in their possession.
The arrests were made on 9 September 2026 during Operation PROSPER, involving Alpha Company of the Solomon Mahlangu Regiment and the Battlefield Surveillance Team, deployed under Joint Tactical Headquarters Gauteng, together with the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit.
According to information released by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), members were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they spotted two men leaving a house in Sarfier Street.
The men were stopped and searched. The SANDF said members found dagga, a packet of crystal methamphetamine and mandrax, as well as R8,000 in cash.
Both suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of illicit drugs.
The operation forms part of joint SANDF and SAPS efforts to combat criminal activity and disrupt illicit operations in Gauteng communities.
“The South African National Defence Force and the South African Police Service remain committed to strengthening joint operations aimed at combating crime, disrupting illegal mining activities and ensuring that peace and security prevail among the citizens of the Republic of South Africa,” the SANDF said.
Although Operation PROSPER includes efforts to combat illicit mining, the reported arrests in Eldorado Park related specifically to the alleged possession of drugs.
The operation was conducted as authorities continue joint deployments aimed at tackling crime and strengthening safety in communities across Gauteng.
