Residents in Lenasia and Orange Farm are being urged to prepare for possible water supply disruptions as Johannesburg Water implements daily throttling measures aimed at managing pressure and demand across the city’s water network. The restrictions are expected to begin at 6pm, affecting Orange Farm, Lenasia, the Lenasia Hospital supply zone and President Park. Throttling will remain in place overnight until 5am on Tuesday, with the level of restriction expected to differ from one area to another.

Johannesburg Water (JW) said daily throttling forms part of its water demand management measures, with restrictions being implemented at different levels depending on the affected supply area. For households in Lenasia and Orange Farm, the measures could result in reduced water pressure or interruptions to supply during the throttling period. Depending on reservoir levels and demand, some areas may also experience a delay before normal pressure is restored after restrictions are lifted.

“Daily throttling will start at 6pm in Orange Farm, Lenasia, Lenasia Hospital and President Park, with the level of restriction varying between areas,” Johannesburg Water said.

Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly and avoid unnecessary consumption, particularly during peak periods. Those who have water available before the restrictions begin are advised to make reasonable provision for essential household needs.

While the main concern for communities in the south remains Lenasia and Orange Farm, other parts of Johannesburg will also be affected by water demand management measures.

Johannesburg Water will once again close meters supplying parts of Sandton from 8pm until 4am, with areas including Illovo, Bryanston and Morningside potentially affected. Residents in these areas have been warned that water supply could take several hours to fully recover once the meters are reopened.

For residents of Lenasia and Orange Farm, the overnight restrictions mean households should prepare for reduced pressure or possible interruptions as Johannesburg Water continues efforts to manage demand across its systems.

Residents are urged to monitor Johannesburg Water updates for any changes to throttling schedules and information affecting their respective supply zones.
