Community outreach in Lenasia South and Vlakfontein has been increased by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), focusing on road safety, crime prevention, municipal bylaws and career opportunities.
“Community safety starts with informed and engaged residents,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
In Lenasia South, JMPD Outreach partnered with the South African Police Service during Wasalaam Nursery & Preschool’s Career Day. Officers engaged young learners on safety topics, including basic road safety and awareness around strangers.
The outreach programme also extended to Vlakfontein Clinic, where members of the public received practical safety information aimed at helping residents protect themselves and remain alert in their communities.
JMPD officials also held one-on-one engagements with community members in these areas, sharing information on municipal bylaws, crime prevention and career opportunities within the department.
The initiative is part of ongoing outreach efforts aimed at improving engagement with residents and promoting safer communities in Lenasia South and Vlakfontein.
The department continues outreach in collaboration with other law-enforcement agencies to make safety education and municipal services more accessible to these communities.
