Two suspects linked to a business robbery and the attempted murder of three police officers were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s K9 Unit in Roodepoort on Thursday, 16 July.

The arrests followed a targeted search for a white Toyota Quantum believed to have been used during a business robbery at Columbine Square in Johannesburg South on Tuesday, 14 July. The robbery reportedly led to a shootout between the suspects and members of the South African Police Service.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said: “The K9 Unit members launched a targeted search in the Roodepoort area and successfully located the matching vehicle on Christian de Wet Road.”

Officers stopped and searched the minibus taxi and allegedly discovered several bullet holes, which authorities believe link the vehicle to the earlier shootout. The two men inside the vehicle were immediately arrested and taken to Mondeor SAPS for processing.

According to Fihla, the driver was charged with business robbery and attempted murder relating to three police officers. The passenger was allegedly found to be undocumented and was charged under the Immigration Act.

Fihla praised the officers for their swift response and investigative work: “This arrest sends a clear message that criminal elements have nowhere to hide in the City of Johannesburg.”
