At just 17 years old, Jayden McKinna is already making waves in the lifesaving community, showing that passion, discipline and a heart for helping others can open powerful doors.
Jayden began his formal lifesaving training in November 2025, but his commitment to serving people started long before then. His mother, Bernadette, said: “Jayden is actively involved in various community outreach initiatives since the age of 8 years old. Life guarding will be an extension of his passion to make a difference.”
Jayden’s dedication has already seen him take on a major leadership role. “I am extremely proud of Jayden. Being the youngest and club captain of a group of 43 swimmers, he proved that with God on your side, perseverance and hard work, despite various challenges, definitely paid off,” Bernadette said.
She added that Jayden’s achievement should serve as encouragement to other young people who are working towards their goals.
“I would like to encourage every young person out there to believe in your dreams, pursue them and don’t give up until you succeed,” she said.
Bernadette also expressed gratitude to those who played a role in Jayden’s journey, giving thanks to “our heavenly Father Jesus Christ, Leader Denin, Leader Cassian, Instructors Winnie, Thabo, Nozipho and all the DHL life guards.”
Jayden’s story stands as an inspiring example of youth leadership, community service and the power of perseverance. As he continues his lifesaving journey, he carries with him not only the pride of his family, but also the hope of inspiring other young people to follow their dreams and serve their communities.
