Residents were awakened by loud explosions and multiple gunshots at around 3am on Tuesday, 2 June after an ATM at Sheffield BP in Lenasia South Ext 4 was bombed. Preliminary reports, indicate that suspects used explosives to gain access to the ATM before fleeing the scene. Community members heard multiple gunshots during the incident
Police spokesperson, Cpt Tintswalo Sibeko told GLOBE POST: “Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and ATM bombing following an incident that occurred on Sheffield Road. It is reported that suspects bombed an ATM at a petrol station.”

Cpt Sibeko said police responded to the scene after noticing tyres placed across the road. “While conducting investigations, four suspects allegedly opened fire on the police members.No police members sustained injuries.The suspects fled the scene and, during their escape, allegedly shot at a man who was inside his vehicle. The victim was not injured. No cash was taken during the incident,” she said.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations are continuing.
