This morning, 1 June, GLOBE POST attended a scene on the R558 near Naren Farm at approximately 8:30am, where an elderly man, identified as Lucky Molokoi, was shot and killed during a mugging.
Molokoi, who was in his late 60s, worked as a gardener and caretaker in Sandton. According to residents, he travelled daily from Naren’s Farm to Rivonia for work.

Residents reported that the incident occurred at around 4am while the victim was on his way to work. It is belived he was approached by suspects, mugged, and shot.

A resident, who requested anonymity, told GLOBE POST: “I heard a gunshot. After that, we alerted the community. When we arrived on the road, we found a man lying dead. It appears he was shot and may have been run over by multiple vehicles because there was heavy fog that time of the morning.”
Police at the scene said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation: “We do not know exactly what transpired. Residents woke up to what initially appeared to be a culpable homicide scene. JMPD and emergency services were called to the scene. Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered evidence of possible foul play, including spent cartridges and bullet casings,” SAPS said.
Motorists are advised that the turn-off on the R558 near Naren Farm has been temporarily closed while investigations continue. Residents and road users are urged to make use of alternative routes and exercise caution in the area.
