A North West-based self-proclaimed South African Police Service (SAPS) informant, Brown Mogotsi, will remain in custody after his bail application was postponed to Monday, 25 May.

Mogotsi is accused of allegedly staging an assassination attempt in Vosloorus. Authorities allege that Mogotsi falsely reported that unknown gunmen had opened fire on his vehicle. However, investigations later allegedly suggested that he may have been responsible for shooting at his own car.

His lawyer, Makau William Sekgatja, reportedly expressed fears about eating food in prison due to concerns that he could be poisoned. “He has indicated to me that he wants to be moved to the Johannesburg Correctional facility. He was complaining about the food at the police station where he was kept. He has hardly had anything to eat since his arrest on Friday,” Sekgatji said.

The case has drawn attention due to Mogotsi’s reputation as a political fixer with links to several high-profile figures in Gauteng. His name has surfaced in previous investigations into tender irregularities and internal ANC disputes, though he has never been convicted on those matters.
