Music, dancing and colourful outfits filled the Lenasia South Civic Centre as the Kagiso Migson Manor Healthcare Elderly Club hosted a successful fundraiser on Tuesday, 12 May, that brought together elderly clubs from across Region G.
The event created a vibrant atmosphere as senior citizens enjoyed singing performances, motivational speeches and hours of dancing while celebrating community spirit and active ageing.
Project manager, Thandi Shongwe told GLOBE POST that the gathering attracted clubs from different areas. “We only have about 11 clubs with us today, but the turnout has been amazing, with more than 100 elderly people attending. With the funds we have raised today, we plan to take the elders on outings to places of entertainment and also buy materials for our crocheting and other activities.”
She said the fundraiser aimed to create a fun and welcoming environment for senior citizens while also strengthening relationships between clubs in the region. Guests embraced the event’s unique Scottish-inspired theme, with many attendees dressed to match the occasion. “
Explaining the decision behind the theme, Shongwe said organisers wanted to try something different from the usual cultural style often seen at elderly events. “We decided to divert from the usual African theme and instead go with an olden-days theme,” she said.
