Big 5, big love, big vibes-this Mother’s Day, it’s all happening in the heart of Joburg at the iconic, 122-year-old Johannesburg Zoo.

The City of Joburg is turning up the volume for the real MVPs this Mother’s Day. On 10 May 2026, the Johannesburg Zoo becomes the ultimate celebration space-bringing together 10 incredible artists, unforgettable live performances, and one of the most unique experiences in the world:  music amongst the Big 5 and with over 300 species to keep the whole family entertained.

This is not just a concert, it’s a full cultural moment that reflects the diversity, energy, and spirit of Johannesburg and its people.

A line-up as diverse as Joburg itself!

From soulful melodies to upbeat pop, from kasi soul to orchestral brilliance, this year’s Mother’s Day Concert delivers a rich and inclusive musical journey:

Ami Faku – Soulful, powerful, and deeply moving

The Soil – Authentic kasi soul harmonies

Matthew Mole – Feel-good indie-pop energy

LaSauce – Contemporary urban flair

Chubby Cheeks – Crowd-favourite entertainment

Bongi Archi – Dynamic, multi-talented performer

Phoebe Mxgagi – Fresh, vibrant sound

Giselle Niemand – Youthful pop appeal

Richard Cock with the Phoenix Orchestra – Classical excellence for refined listeners

Together, these artists create a multi-genre, multi-generational lineup that speaks to the full spectrum of Joburg residents—young and old, families and friends, music lovers across all tastes.

A Concert Experience Like No Other

Set within one of the few urban zoos in the world offering a Big 5 experience, the Johannesburg Zoo provides a backdrop that is both breathtaking and uniquely local. Guests can enjoy world-class live music while surrounded by nature, something that very few cities globally can offer.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and explore:

Wildlife encounters, including the Big 5

The immersive Animals of the Amazon exhibit, featuring a rare freshwater walk-through aquarium,

Green picnic spaces are perfect for relaxing and connecting, all under the Zoo’s renowned rich tree canopy.

Guided Heritage tours of the Zoo

Three 45-minute tours will be offered from 09h00 to 12h00:-  09h15 to 10h00; 10h15 to 11h00; and 11h15 to 12:00.

Adopt-an-Animal stall/display

Encouraging concert goers to consider buying an Adopt-an-animal package as a Mother’s Day gift.  Packages include a personalised adoption certificate, a photograph of the adopted animal, species information, free voucher/s to enter the zoo (depending on the selected package), and a cap with selected packages.

Empowering Local Talent Through SMMEs

Adding to the experience is a vibrant SMME marketplace, where young entrepreneurs and creatives will showcase their arts, crafts, and unique products. This platform supports local economic growth while allowing attendees to discover and purchase meaningful, locally made gifts for moms.

Accessible, Inclusive, Unmissable

In true Joburg spirit, the event is designed to be accessible to all:

R150 for adults

R80 for children (3–12) and pensioners

Tickets are available via Webtickets and at the gate.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) invites residents from across the city to come together for a day that celebrates mothers, showcases local talent, and highlights the unique beauty of our urban green spaces.

Because this Mother’s Day, it’s not just about saying thank you, it’s about showing up, together.
