Motorists travelling through Ormonde are being urged to exercise caution and seek alternative routes following an emergency road closure on Crownwood Road due to an active crime scene.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Crownwood Road has been completely փակ at the intersection with Rente Street while law enforcement officials process the scene. The closure extends between Rente Street and surrounding blocks, with the area cordoned off to ensure public safety and preserve evidence.

Traffic disruptions are already being felt across the area, with significant delays reported on routes leading into Ormonde, particularly along the M1 Highway. Officers are on-site diverting traffic, but secondary roads are experiencing increased congestion as motorists attempt to navigate around the closure.

Authorities are advising drivers to avoid the area where possible and to make use of alternative routes such as Xavier Street, or to access the M1 via the Booysens or Gold Reef City exits.

The road will remain closed until further notice as investigations continue.
