Ennerdale’s Kylie Summer gives girls 100 reasons to smile

Kylie Summer, a finalist in the 2025 Miss Ennerdale Pageant, recently hosted a Sanitary Pad Drive in Extension 7, Ennerdale on 1 November where she donated 100 sanitary towels, magazines and beautifully scented empowerment cards to girls.

As part of her pageant campaign, Kylie launched an initiative themed “Self-Love & Empowerment” with the mission of uplifting young girls within her community. The original plan for the outreach was to donate 100 full toiletry and pamper bags containing sanitary pads, deodorant, soap and small pamper gifts to promote confidence, self-care and dignity. However, due to limited funding and donor support, Kylie was only able to distribute sanitary towels, magazines and beautifully scented empowerment cards with uplifting messages – 100 units supplied by NFTJ Creations.

Her mother, Sinead Alves-Esterhuizen, told GLOBE POST: “This initiative is about reminding young girls that self-love is their superpower. We want every girl to feel valued, beautiful and capable – inside and out.”

The programme also included empowerment talks by community leaders, focusing on self-worth, identity, and resilience. The initiative was especially impactful for the families who recently moved into the Extension 7 informal settlement and are still facing daily challenges such as limited water access and unstable electricity, making sanitary hygiene products difficult to afford or prioritise.

Kylie expressed her gratitude to all who donated and partnered with the initiative, thanking Ladies of Hope NPO, NFTJ Creations and Joy Magazine for their support.

Alves-Esterhuizen added that this initiative is ongoing, and she appeals to the public to continue contributing and supporting girls in need.

For support, donations or collection, please call Kylie’s team on 061 810 0518.
