On 7 September, the streets of Lenasia Ext 5 came alive as thousands joined the 36th Annual Gandhi Walk – a 6.5km journey of fun, fitness and community spirit.

Organisers hailed the event as “a huge success, filled with community spirit and togetherness.”

Participants of all ages walked side by side, celebrating health, unity and the power of collective action. The day was packed with entertainment and activities that kept the crowd excited. Live performances included the legendary Dr Victor and His Rasta Rebels, the dynamic dancers, a dazzling car display and much more – ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Councillor Jakes Karolia and Member of Parliament Imraan Moosa were among the dignitaries present, showing their support for the initiative.

“The Gandhi Walk is more than just fitness. It’s about building bridges, uniting people of all ages and backgrounds, and walking side by side towards a stronger community,” organisers said.

Now in its 36th year, the Gandhi Walk has grown into a landmark event in Lenasia, raising awareness and support for various community development projects while reminding everyone that the spirit of Gandhi lives on through unity and service.
