Tensions in Mozambique causing disruptions at Lebombo border

Mozambique is currently experiencing heightened tensions, with disruptions reported at the Lebombo border and sporadic violence erupting in the capital, Maputo.

One of the opposition leaders is reportedly abroad in Europe, though their identity and purpose remain unconfirmed. No announcements have been made regarding the country’s inauguration plans.

Following Frelimo’s landslide victory in the recent Mozambican elections, no formal announcement has been made regarding the inauguration of presidential candidate Daniel Chapo.

Observers have since criticized the October 9 election as neither free nor fair. Protests have erupted in response to the ruling party’s extended hold on power, which now spans five decades in the Southern African nation, as citizens call for greater transparency in governance.
