On 12 October 2024, the Lenasia South IKKF Karate Club participated in the Kyokushinkan Provincial Karate Tournament held at Flavours Mareka TVET College, Kroonstad Campus, in the Free State Province. The club, under the guidance of Sensei Mabati Makwela, was proudly represented by three young fighters, and they returned home with two trophies.

In a stellar display of skill and discipline, Khwezi Shezi took first place in the under-45kg boys’ division, while Banele Radebe secured second place in the under-55kg young lions girls’ division. Sensei Makwela, who also serves as the club’s instructor, expressed immense pride in his students’ achievements.

“I am incredibly happy with their performance,” said Sensei Makwela. “I also want to thank the parents for their unwavering support.”

He added that sponsorships are crucial for the club, especially since many of the students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. As part of his community outreach efforts, Sensei Makwela trains these young athletes free of charge, with the aim of keeping them off the streets and away from crime.

Training sessions take place at the Lenasia South Civic Centre Hall, from Monday to Thursday, between 16:00 and 18:00. For more information, or to offer sponsorship support, Sensei Makwela can be contacted on 073 441 3353.
