Mia Le Roux is the new Miss South Africa. The Free State-born model was crowned at a glittering ceremony at the Sun Bet Arena at Time Square in Menlyn, Pretoria.
Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one, Le Roux’s victory will go down in the history books as a watershed moment in the archives of the pageant as she becomes the first model with a hearing impairment to be crowned Miss SA. Describing herself as resilient, dedicated, graceful and kind, the 28-year-old says her community was the source of her inspiration to seek to make a positive impact and break barriers when they rallied behind her to give her the gift of hearing.
Le Roux, who juggles between being a Marketing Manager and a model while she is also a part-time BCom Marketing student at the same time, takes over from Miss SA 2023 Natasha Joubert, following a build-up to the final which was marred by controversy concerning the citizenship status of the much-talked-about former Miss SA contestant, Chiddima Vanessa Adetshina.
The South African government as well as various political parties including the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are among many other institutions that have posted congratulatory messages to Le Roux on their social media platforms.
